About Us

The Mount Vernon Church of Christ is a loving and welcoming group of Christians who stand on God's word.

We hope that the information on this page will help you to get to know us a little bit better.

Our Mission

Our mission is Christ's mission - "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; ..." (Matthew 28:19-20, NKJV).

We love sharing the gospel with all men, "for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes" (Romans 1:16, NKJV).

We love doing all that we can to "do good to all men" (Galatians 6:10, NKJV).

We love encouraging and building up the body of Christ Jesus (Ephesians 4:15-16).

Salvation

We believe that all men are saved by the grace of God when we act in obedient faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). Acting in obedient faith requires one to:

- Hear the word of God (Romans 10:17).

- Have faith (John 8:24; Hebrews 11:6).

- Repent of their sins (Luke 13:3; Acts 2:38)

- Confess Jesus (Matthew 10:32-33; Romans 10:9-10)

- Be baptized (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16)

- Live a faithful life (Luke 9:23; Revelation 2:10)

Our Worship

On Sunday mornings at 10:30AM, we meet together to worship our God. Our aim is to worship God "in spirit and truth" (John 4:24, NKJV).

As we worship God together, we:

- Pray to God (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

- Lift our voices in song to God (Ephesians 5:19)

- Remember Christ's sacrifice as we take the Lord's Supper (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians
  11:23-26)

- Freely give as we have been blessed by God (1 Corinthians 16:1-2)

- Consider a message from God's word (2 Timothy 4:2)

Our Bible Classes

We believe that the Bible is God's all-authoritative, all-inspired word (2 Timothy 3:16-17). As a result, we believe that studying God's word is essential to living lives that are pleasing to our God (2 Timothy 2:15).

We offer Bible classes for all ages on:

- Sunday mornings at 9:30AM

- Wednesday evenings at 7:00PM

On Sunday evenings we meet for a congregational Bible study in our auditorium at 5:00PM (the first Sunday of each month is at 1:00PM after our fellowship meal).

Missions & Works We Support

We have begun to produce and broadcast podcasts for men, women, and children designed to encourage and foster spiritual growth. You can access these podcasts from our "Learning Resources."

We support and work closely with a local mission work, the Home of Recovery and Restoration, to assist men who find themselves caught up in addiction.

We support The Lamb's Academy of Biblical Studies and other schools of preaching, such as the Brown Trail School of Preaching and the Southwest School of Bible Studies.

Our congregation also supports Camp Ida, a Christian youth camp located in Maud, TX.

We help support Christian foster parents whom we know personally.

We also house a room filled with baby and maternity supplies for those in our community who may have a need, as well as having a food pantry available for those in need.

Several of our men teach at the Franklin County Jail throughout the month.

Gospel Meetings, Summer Series, and Workshops

In addition to our regular preaching and Bible classes, we do our best to provide our members with opportunities for spiritual growth.

Every year, we:
     - Bring in a guest preacher for a Gospel Meeting.
     - Host a Wednesday Night Summer Series.
     - Host the annual Make Me A Servant Workshop.
